When pain comes into our lives, our gut impulse is to to blame someone. Typically, the blame does not stop with the person in front of us. It can be easy to move into questioning God. He is the highest authority. Why did he let this happen to me? Why did he create pain in my life? Keep Reading...
James 1:13 - When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone…. These questions are normal. God understands us in our confusion. He doesn’t judge us in return, but rather counsels us. God reminds us of the origin of sin and the pain that comes with it. When Adam and Eve decided to rebel against God, all of creation was impacted. Indeed, as all humans followed in line with Adam and Eve with continued rebellion, the consequence was catastrophic. Pain and suffering rushed upon creation in full force. Everything began dying as soon as the decision to rebel against God took place. Animals, plant life, relationships, humans, the very ground beneath us… everything has the touch of death because of sin. This is not to say that you have pain because of a specific act of sin you committed. Sometimes this is true. But often, we receive pain because of people sinning against us or simply by living in a world tainted with sin. God is not to blame for the pain that comes with sin. He actually longs to comfort us in our pain. 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 He alone knows how to bring beauty and redemption out of terrible circumstances. Romans 8:28 However, it is hard to find his redemption when a finger of accusation is pointed toward him. The choice to rebel against God brought pain. The choice to receive God’s comfort will bring life and peace.
