Where does boredom and purposeless living come from? Keep Reading…
READ Isaiah 40:7-9 - Surely the people are grass. The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.” You who bring good tidings to Zion, go up on a high mountain. You who bring good tidings to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with a shout, lift it up, do not be afraid; say to the towns of Judah, “Here is your God!” REFLECT We stress and study - hoping for the good grades that will get us the good job. But we fail to realize one simple truth… We are so not the point. We worry and work - hoping for the promotion and money that will get us the good life complete with financial security, vacation packages and a relaxing retirement. But we fail to recognize this foundational principle… We are so not the point. We take another look in the mirror - hoping for more satisfaction with our appearance. If only we were taller, shorter, skinnier or browner. But we still do not understand that… We are so not the point. Who is the point? Isaiah 40:9 calls out to us, "Here is your God!" Isaiah 40 is full of contrasting statements regarding God and humans. People don’t last, but God and his words do. (Isa. 40:7-8) God's size is incomprehensibly big. Humans are so small. (Isa. 40:12) People have such limited knowledge. But God's wisdom is limitless. (Isa. 40:13-14) God sits enthroned above the earth. His authority is far above all kings and nations. In comparison, people are like grasshoppers. (Isa. 40:22) There is a point here. And we are not it. God is the central character in His story. His ways and words fill out the drama that we are privileged to take part in. The wonder that this infinitely big God stoops to hold us and renew our strength is mind-boggling (Isa. 40:11, 29). Yet he does. RESPOND We only find real purpose in life when our mind, words and activity revolve around God. Boredom and purposeless living come from self being the point. Are there areas of your life where YOU have become the point and not God? Let him speak to you about this. Determine to make him the point of your day today.
