You long to experience the glory of God. But what do you expect will happen? His glory comes in the most unexpected places. Keep Reading...
READ Isaiah 40:3-5 - A voice of one calling: “In the desert prepare the way for the Lord; make straight in the wilderness a highway for our God. Every valley shall be raised up, every mountain and hill made low; the rough ground shall become level, the rugged places a plain. And the glory of the Lord will be revealed, and all mankind together will see it. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.” REFLECT God’s glory has been seen since the beginning of time. For centuries, mankind has been living inside his glory (his creation), though he acknowledges or not. But here in Isaiah 40 there is a more specific glory referred to… a glory that is coming, that will be revealed. What or who is this glory? John 1:14 says, "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth." Jesus, the Word who became flesh, is the revealed glory of God. You can’t get more glorious than him. He is the culmination of God’s glory on earth. All seeking of glory outside of Jesus is a vain pursuit. All attempts to "experience" God’s glory apart from submission to Jesus will come up empty. In the person of Jesus we find the exact expression of God’s glory. Let’s take another look at Jesus to see the true nature of God’s glory. He is very personable (down to earth), humble and gentle, powerful, compassionate, wise, generous, sacrificial, and persevering. CLICK HERE for a more detailed description of Jesus’ character. The Jews of Jesus’ day thought the glory of God would be manifest through thunder and lightening or a blaze of political power. Instead God revealed the summation of his glory through a simple, unimpressive man. This will make a person think again about the true nature of glory. Would you miss Jesus, expecting (even wishing) that he would show up in your life in a blaze of showy power? Might you miss him speaking to you, connecting with you, in your normal routine of life? He wants to reveal his glory (His character and ways) in your home, work, play, school and everywhere in between. RESPOND Ask Jesus to reveal his glory to you in this day. Be watching for signs of his intervention, healing, provision, compassion, etc. today. Don’t miss him in the "normal" activities. The same Jesus that walked with the disciples is walking with you. He wants you to hear him and see him at work. Jesus is still revealing God’s glory today.
