When you start fighting the right battles, you will learn that you possess the winning ingredient. Keep Reading...
PRAY Dear Jesus, I will lean in to listen to your words of life today. Please speak to me. Thank you. In Jesus' name, Amen. READ Exodus 17:10-13 - So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up–one on one side, one on the other–so that his hands remained steady till sunset. So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword. REFLECT Have you ever wondered why it took a whole day to defeat an army when God was fighting for the Israelites? Couldn’t he just snap his fingers, and the fighting would be over? Instead Joshua had to lead his army, and Moses had to raise his hands. When Moses became tired, Aaron and Hur had to hold his hands up. What’s the point? God is intent on working out his purposes through people. Though he could, God does not bypass his people and take the easy way. Human frailty and often disobedience delays the timeline. Yet, God is determined to persevere with his people. Each role was significant in seeing the victory happen. How could you say that one was more important than the other? Joshua, the soldiers, Moses, Aaron, Hur… each one had a part to play. Each one brought the winning ingredient. What if one of these individuals quit? The outcome would have been much different. Do you ever feel like your role is insignificant? Feeling over-looked? You actually possess the winning ingredient to the battle in front of you. Your significance lies in your connection to the King and your ability to hear and obey him. Don’t compare yourself to another person any longer. You are needed in God’s battle plan today. Think of the humility and patience of God choosing to work with people like us. Yet he perseveres. He is determined to gain victory with you and through you. APPLY Thank God for the roles he has called you to (in family, work, ministry, other relationships). Turn away from comparison. Commit this day to following your King in his purposes. He will share with you the winning ingredient that only you can bring. READ MORE Genesis 2:4-7 Matthew 16:18-19
