Would you choose to be a human with no outer beauty, no title, no wealth and no prestigious ancestry? Jesus did. If that wasn't enough, he became even more humble. Keep Reading...
READ Isaiah 53:1-3 - Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed? He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. REFLECT If you were God, and you could come to earth as any kind of human, who would you be? Would you be a bit more handsome than most? Perhaps you would choose to have gorgeous hair, sleek muscles or a winning smile? Would you have a standout personality or a quick wit? How do you know that God is actually real? Simple answer - he did not take the bait of pride. All other gods are imposters, for they try to seize a following with outer attractiveness or show of power. Jesus, however, chose to come as a normal, average man. There was nothing in his appearance that we would desire him. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him. The Almighty God is the most humble One in the universe. The Highest One went the lowest. You would think that God becoming man would be the greatest act of humility. But, he went even lower. Jesus became a common, ordinary man who never attracted people with an outer appeal. In the end, he was actually despised and rejected by most people. You can trust this humble God. He doesn't dominate you with his power. Instead he draws you in with his gentle humility. RESPOND Are you prone to seek approval for your outer appearance? Do you want people to admire your personality or giftings? Will you follow Jesus' path of humility today? Place value in what he does - the heart of tenderness and submission to his Father.
