KEY VERSE
"But I tell you the truth: It is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Counselor will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgment." John 16:7-8 NIV

THINK ABOUT IT
If you want to eat a really nice steak, you will first tenderize it and then poke it all over with a fork. Why? You are softening it and creating pathways for the marinade to work its way inside of the meat. It's not enough to have great flavor on the outside of the steak. You want flavor throughout.

The Holy Spirit comes to convict us of sin. His work is like the fork before the steak is cooked. He is creating pathways for the marinade, or the love of God, to penetrate deep within us. God wants to transform us with his love. So, he sends the Holy Spirit to convict us of anything that would toughen us against his ways. Conviction is not an end in itself. It creates the pathway for intimacy with God.

Will you allow the Holy Spirit to do his work of conviction in your life? Ask him to reveal any area in your life that is displeasing to God. And he will. As he reveals sin in your life, take some time and repent of that sin. The Holy Spirit is not willing that you stay tough and rebellious. He is here to soften you and create pathways for the love of God to penetrate you and change you.

PRAY
Holy Spirit, touch on any area of my life that is not pleasing to You. I welcome Your conviction. I will respond to You through repentance. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
