REFLECT
God had just given Moses instructions on how the nation of Israel should be constructed. He carefully laid out plans for his people to thrive in the Promised Land. But, the greatest wonder of all - God wanted to live with them. It is one thing for the Creator and Architect to design a new house or nation. It's another thing for the Creator to live inside that house.

God lives with man.

The Israelites would live in tents, and so would God. He did not hover above the Israelites in a cloud. But he came to live with them... in a tent.

To live with his people has always been God's desire and plan. He walked with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. Genesis 3:8-9 When they sinned, he walked out of the Garden and lived with them "East of Eden." Genesis 4:3-5 God lived with the nomadic Israelites in a tent. Exodus 25:8 He then lived with the settled Israelites in a temple. I Kings 6:1

We see this most clearly in Jesus. "The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us." John 1:14 Jesus showed us that God is real, personal and can be touched. After his ascension into heaven, Jesus left the Holy Spirit to live with us. We have never been left without God living among us. John 14:17 In fact, Jesus went away to prepare a home for us and will come back to take us there. John 14:1-4

Revelation 21:3 tells us what will the new heavens and earth will be like. "Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God." God will fulfill his desire of being at home with his people forever.

Are you getting the picture that God really wants to live with you? He doesn't want to be a hovering presence in your life. He wants to move in. John 14:23 Will you allow him to do that?
