How close will you let God come? He wants to come closer than you imagine. He wants to eat with you. What does that mean? Keep Reading...
READ Exodus 24:9-11 - Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and the seventy elders of Israel went up and saw the God of Israel. Under his feet was something like a pavement made of sapphire, clear as the sky itself. But God did not raise his hand against these leaders of the Israelites; they saw God, and they ate and drank. REFLECT That the star-breathing, mountain-shaking God would even notice us is amazing. That he would stoop to speak with us in another thing. But he comes even closer. He involves himself in our very human and daily existence. He eats with us. When Moses, the priests and elders of Israel went up Mount Sinai to see God, they must have been overcome by his glorious presence. His awesome brilliance could have killed all of them in a flash. Yet, they didn't die. Instead, they were invited to a meal. In the preceding chapters of Exodus, we read about the covenant that God made with the people of Israel. The covenant was an agreement. On one side, God would be faithful to lead and protect his people. On the other, the Israelites were called to obey the whole law that God gave to Moses on the mountain. In the ancient near eastern cultures, these covenants or agreements were often sealed by a meal. Genesis 26:30; 31:54 To think that the almighty God would enter into a covenant with people like us is mind-boggling. He opens himself up to incredible pain and grief with the possibility that we would not keep our end of the agreement. And he goes even further by sealing the covenant with a meal. He relates to us on our level. Intimacy with God requires faithfulness from both parties. God always keeps his end of the covenant. And this is what God longs for us to do. He desires that we would listen and obey him fully. For us to know the joy of relationship with him, it will require our wholehearted obedience. To "eat with God" (intimacy with God) means that we are responding "YES" with our words AND actions to his commands. RESPOND God comes to your dinner table with great love. He awaits your reciprocal move of love - your wholehearted obedience. Will you give it to him? What specific area of obedience has he been highlighting in your life? As he sits with you at your table, tell him that you will fully obey. Click Below to READ MORE about God eating with us Luke 19:1-10 John 13:1-5 Revelation 3:19-20
