REFLECT
Have you ever wanted to boil noodles and forgot to turn the stove top on? Everything is ready. The pot is in place. But you wait and wait. Suddenly it dawns on you that you forgot to turn the heat on.

We can have everything in place in our Christian walk - the quiet time, the small group or church and the outreach moments. But without fire - without real desire for God - there is no fruit through our lives.

What snuffs out the fire - this flame of passion for Jesus, turning Christian discipline into personal revival? We have the ability to put out our own flame through choices of spiritual apathy. When love for Jesus is not stoked in between spiritual disciplines (prayer, worship, fellowship, etc.), then apathy creeps in. Love is best cultivated in the "in-between" moments. Religious behavior can often mimic desire, but also be so far from true fire. Apathy and religion go hand-in-hand. They feed each other.

Do you notice how the more you sleep, the more you want to sleep? Apathy begets apathy. It’s time to stoke the fire of desire. How? There is nothing more effective than repentance. Recognizing spiritual apathy, turning to the Lord and crying out for mercy is the starting point. Make a decision to turn now. It will take determination, a decision of will, to shake off apathy and get white-hot for God. Revelation 3:15

RESPOND
Call out to God with David, “Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.” He is ready to respond to you. Ask God to restore the fire and real desire for his presence. Without this, all of your best efforts will remain lifeless.
