Stepping into the Unknown

If you decide to avoid God's plan for your life - if you decide to "play it safe," you are actually taking the most risky position. When you hear and obey God - though it may not make sense - you are taking a step into the arms of the Father. If you disregard God's call to walk by faith, you will forfeit your inheritance.

Dear Lord Jesus, please speak to me. I want to practice obeying you. I will follow where you send me. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Reflect
Some would have called Abram foolish, even reckless. Why would you step out without a real plan? Why would you leave the comfort of family and familiar culture to step out into the great unknown?

There should be only one reason for this step into an uncertain future. God spoke. When my family and I left the States to travel to the other side of the world, landing in Australia, we only knew that God spoke to us about launching into missions. We didn't have many details besides that.

And God is so faithful. He provided vision, ministry and a great inheritance in the nations for our family. God provided a land and an inheritance for Abram as well. But he never saw the fulfillment of all that God had promised. Abram began with faith and finished his days still living by faith.

If you decide to avoid God's plan for your life - if you decide to "play it safe," you are actually taking the most risky position. When you hear and obey God - though it may not make sense - you are taking a step into the arms of the Father. If you disregard God's call to walk by faith, you will forfeit your inheritance.

If you only move when you think you can see into the future and plan your years ahead, you are actually on shaky ground. In faith follow God into the unknown and know the security of his presence.

Meditate
Hebrews 11:9-10 - By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.

Apply
Ask God for a way in which you can step out and take a risk for him today. Could it be in a conversation you start with someone you don't know well? Could it be in asking if you can pray for someone's need, even if you are in public? Don’t fear man. It will hold you back from faith. Take the risk of making Jesus known right where you walk and work.
