Do you remember all the moments of breakthrough, healing, provision and salvation that God has brought about in your life? Remembering brings humility. Forgetting leads to pride, and ultimate destruction. Keep Reading…
Deuteronomy 8:10 - When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land he has given you. Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God….
Be careful not to forget… How many times have you gone to the grocery store and forgotten to buy something? Very annoying, isn’t it? After this happens over and over, you might start making a list.
Forgetting God is not like forgetting the eggs. The implications of both are far different. The “list” of God’s goodness is all around us. It can be seen in nature (Psalm 19), in his people (1 Peter 2:9) and his Spirit moving within us (John 14:16). How could we forget him? Yet we do.
Forgetting is intentional. It can come off like an “oops.” But really, forgetting happens when we don’t want to remember. The implications of this are dreadful. When we forget God’s goodness, we naturally assume that we have produced our own goodness (satisfaction, wealth, comfort, etc.). The worship of God then is replaced with the worship of self. And quick destruction follows…
This progression is detailed in Romans 1:21-23 - For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.
What could you do to intentionally remember what God has done in your life? How about starting with a list? Now tell someone about what God has done in your life. Speaking it out will solidify the memory. Make this a practice in your life. Keep this list ever before you.
