Genesis 48:3-4 - Jacob said to Joseph, “God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and there he blessed me and said to me, ‘I am going to make you fruitful and will increase your numbers. I will make you a community of peoples, and I will give this land as an everlasting possession to your descendants after you.’"

Genesis 50:24 - Then Joseph said to his brothers, “I am about to die. But God will surely come to your aid and take you up out of this land to the land he promised on oath to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.”

The family line of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob was filled with broken relationships and wicked power plays. But, there was at least one consistent righteous thread running through the family. Each generation passed on the promises of God to the next generation.

Typically our days are filled with what is in front of our faces… the here and now. We work, we eat, we play and pray usually about our current life situations. Rarely do we raise our gaze to what is coming.

The fathers of our faith - Abraham, Isaac and Jacob - had their sights set on hundreds of years into the future. Though their families were far from perfect, they were determined to remember what God had said. They were focused on passing God's promises onto the many generations ahead.

It takes courage to live with the generations in sight. Many plan their finances in order to pass on an inheritance to their children. But would you plan your time and words to pass on the promises of God to them?

How could you pass on the word of God, His ways and promises today? Perhaps you could write an email… perhaps spend a meaningful moment sharing your testimony with someone younger than you. Ask God for a plan or an idea. It may seem like a small thing. But the generations will be changed by it.
