Do you ever feel like you have to be everything for everyone? What is God's perspective? Keep Reading...
READ Exodus 18:21 - But select capable men from all the people–men who fear God, trustworthy men who hate dishonest gain–and appoint them as officials over thousands, hundreds, fifties and tens. REFLECT Moses was in over his head. Could you imagine being the one leader for over a million people? He did his best to negotiate and judge between disputing parties. Moses faithfully passed on God's ways and decrees. But yet, his way of leadership was not sustainable. It took an outside perspective to bring relief and movement forward. This is often the case. When we're in the midst of pressing responsibilities, it can be hard to see the forest through the trees. God brings his input through those who can see the big picture. Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, brought this needed perspective. He guided Moses toward multiplying his leadership - for his own good and the good of the people. We can be our own worst enemies… trying to do everything and be everything for those who have real need. God has a better way. In 2 Timothy 2:2, Paul reiterates the wise words of Jethro by telling Timothy, "The things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable men who will also be qualified to teach others." In other words, in the face of huge need, our response should be to raise up reliable men and women who can bear the weight with us. Jesus himself raised up disciples who took the gospel into all the world. Certainly if there was ever the possibility of a one-man show, it would be with Jesus. Yet, in great humility, he chose to train up men and women to shoulder the weight. Teamwork and the multiplication of ministry leadership has always been his way. RESPOND Do you feel isolated in your responsibilities? Is the weight becoming too much? It's time to remember the ways of God. Look for your team. Ask God to reveal them to you. Be vulnerable about your need. Remember, God wants to work through his body in accomplishing his purposes. You are not the whole body. You are a vital part. It's time to find your team.
