Have you ever flipped to the end of a book before reading the beginning? We have a desire to know what’s coming. And sometimes the suspense is too much. Well you know how this story ends. The last verses of the Bible reveal all.

Jesus is coming back… and coming back soon. This statement is repeated three times in the last chapter of Revelation (and elsewhere in the Bible). You might be wondering, "How soon is soon?" since hundreds of years have passed since the writing of these words.

If you take God's perspective - the One who holds our entire timeline in his hands - you might see a different definition of "soon." Hundreds of years compared with eternity is surely a short time. But why any delay in the first place?

2 Peter 3:9 gives us the clue - "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." Jesus hasn’t come back yet, because he is patiently waiting for unbelievers to respond to his call to repentance.

The instruction is clear… get ready, because he is coming soon. We are called to live with a clear view of the end. The fact that Jesus will come should color our thoughts, our language and future planning. Because we know the end of the story, we of all people should not hold tightly to the things of this world.

Cling not to reputation, to title or possessions. If your hands are full when he comes back, it will be quite hard to receive him. Jesus is coming back soon. Do you believe it? Do you live like this is true?
