We lose purpose when there is no end in sight. We go off course and lose our way quickly. As Christians, we can get caught up in doing many good activities. There is much effort spent on worthy objectives. But the end goal seems too far away to give it much thought.

The early Christians were continually encouraged to look forward to Jesus' second coming. For Jesus promised that he would come back... and come back soon. We often judge "soon" by microwaves and internet searches. But, nonetheless, Jesus told us he would come back at the appointed time. So we need to be ready!

If you knew this was your last night alive on earth, how would you live? What kind of urgency, purpose and intention would you take on? Suddenly, when the end is in sight, our lives take on new meaning and focus. We live with purpose.

When we realize that Jesus is coming back, and that he is coming to reward faith, our sense of mission becomes clear. The most important things in life- our faith and love- our devotion to Jesus- come to the forefront.
