17/6/2019 1 Comment He Sets the Captives Free
Why Did Jesus come to earth? To set the captives free. If you have reached a "stuck point" in your life, he wants to set you free. Keep Reading...
READ Isaiah 61:1 - The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners. REFLECT This prophecy from Isaiah was about the coming of Jesus. It indicated the purpose of Jesus' arrival on this earth. He came to preach to the poor, bind up the brokenhearted and proclaim freedom for the captives. And Jesus definitely fulfilled this prophecy. Most of his ministry was spent preaching, healing and casting out demons. In the western world, we don't often have room in our worldview for demonic activity. But, remember - for Jesus, the spirit realm is completely normal. For he created "things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him." Colossians 1:16 Now Jesus did not create demons. But since the fall of Satan from heaven and the fall of humans from intimate relationship with the Father, a war has been going on. This unseen realm - typically imperceptible to the human eye, yet perceived by the spirit - is the place where Jesus did a lot of ministry. He used his authority to free people from demonic oppression. There are many unseen forces that can influence our everyday walk. Struggles with anxiety, lowness of spirit and even uncontrollable urges to hate and harm are all too common. What is Jesus' response to this? He comes to set the captives free. It is possible that medicine is needed for certain struggles in the mind. Jesus wants to bring relief to your spirit, as well as your mind. RESPOND Will you acknowledge that you are impacted by the spirit realm all around you? This does not mean there is a demon behind every bush. But you can take up your authority in Jesus' name and rebuke the enemy that would bring harassment to your body, mind and spirit. Matthew 16:19; James 4:7 A physical solution to a spiritual problem will not always work! Follow Jesus' model and cut off demonic oppression as you intercede over your family, school and work place. He wants to set the captives free through you!
