So much stress is induced by self-reliance. You need God’s wisdom. But how do you access it? Keep Reading…
READ James 1:5-6 - If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. REFLECT Your Father God is always ready to give wisdom. He is generous with his wisdom. In other words, he doesn’t make you squirm with confusion before he gives his wisdom. He is a good Father who is continually pouring his good gifts on you, which includes his wisdom. James 1:19 Why don’t you always get God’s wisdom when you so desperately need it? First, you don’t ask him. This sounds pretty obvious, but how long do you wait until you finally let go of pride and ask for help? Sometimes, you think and re-think, plot and plan, strategize and solve before even thinking to ask God. So much stress is induced by self-reliance. When you feel a deep urge to pray for someone, do you ask God how to pray? When you need to make a financial decision, do you first ask God for specific wisdom? When a conversation is getting heated, do you stop and ask God for guidance? When you ask God for wisdom, there is only one requirement to receive that wisdom. You must ask with faith. You are called to actually expect that he will speak to you. Perhaps you don’t exactly know how that wisdom will come. But, you are believing and confident in your Father. James 1:7 goes on to say that if you do not believe that God will give you wisdom, you will surely not receive it. The reasons you do not get wisdom from God is that: 1) you have not asked, or 2) you don’t actually believe he will give it to you. RESPOND If you are feeling convicted by the Holy Spirit, repent of self-reliance. Also, throw off all unbelief related to receiving God’s wisdom. Now take a moment to ask God for specific wisdom in a relationship, prayer focus or work assignment. Thank him in advance for speaking to you. Wait on him for the wisdom.
