From Anxiety to Joy

​Psalms 94:18-19 - When I said, “My foot is slipping,” your love, O Lord, supported me. When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.

How can this incessant dripping of anxiety into our lives be stopped? Moreover, how can we move from a place of anxiety to joy? It is the comfort of the Lord alone that relieves the anxious soul. Many other remedies can provide a temporary fix. But God’s comfort deals with anxiety’s root and symptoms.

How can you access this comfort? God is waiting for your vulnerable cry of need. When your soul is stirring with anxiety, call out to God for his comfort. This sounds obvious. But often, you might not call out to him until your situation has gotten really bad.

God’s comfort is also accessed through the declaration of our mouths. Speak out the promises of God by faith. He has promised to be close to the broken-hearted. Psalm 34:18 God promises to heal the broken-hearted. Psalm 147:3 Speak these promises back to God. Faith will begin to rise within you. Anxiety will fade.

The comfort that God’s Word brings unlocks the joy within you. How do you know that joy is already within you? The Holy Spirit is with you. God’s Word reminds you of the truth you often forget in your anxiety. It is the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, who applies the Word of God specifically to your situation. John 14:16, 26-27 He brings the joy into your life with power.

So remind yourself of God’s promises in his Word. Trust the Holy Spirit to fill you with joy and peace. Romans 15:13 That’s his comfort!
