Do Not Be Anxious

Really? Is that possible? Aren't there some things that you should worry about? Anxiety can be such a common part of our lives that we would feel lost without it. We learn to lean on feelings of anxiety, like a really bad best friend. Perhaps, feeling anxious gives us a feeling of control. But, left unchecked, anxiety will ruin us.

God does not want our minds filled with anxiety. Rather, he desires his joy to fill us. He tells us, "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!" Philippians 4:4 In other words, we can actually rejoice. This is not dependent on a good mood. It is dependent on obedience.

After rejoicing, we are instructed to tell God about our problem or need. We are to do this "with thanksgiving." The thankful heart is the believing heart. This person will receive the peace that God promises. Take a few moments to READ, PRAY, WORSHIP and GIVE, as you seek to be transformed by God's Word.

• Philippians 4:4-8 NIV - "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable–if anything is excellent or praiseworthy–think about such things."
  • MESSAGE: Rejoice. This is a choice to obey. Ask. And be thankful when you do it. Think. Choose to set your mind on truth as you thank God for who He is.

• Dear Father, I thank you that you are near and that you hear me. Right now, I am feeling anxious about _______________________. I ask that you would change this situation for the good and bring your peace. I place it into your hands. And I will now choose to think about you… that you are good, right, pure, lovely, loving, ___________, _____________, _______________. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

• Ask a friend if you can pray for them. Is there any particular need they have? Pause for a moment and ask Jesus how to pray. Then, lay your hand on your friend simply offer your prayer to God with thanksgiving.
