Jesus needed his Father for everything. Do you? Keep Reading...
Luke 10:39 - She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. Jn 5:19-20 - Jesus gave them this answer: “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does. For the Father loves the Son and shows him all he does. Yes, to your amazement he will show him even greater things than these. The life of dependence on the Father begins with a determined trust - a trust in His voice over our own voice. This trust is manifested in a purposeful silence - waiting at His feet for Him to speak. Nothing is more precious than hearing His words. To the independent person, the voice of God is just another voice among many clamouring for attention. The dependent one takes the position of a child... sitting at the feet of Jesus, instead of standing over Jesus telling Him what to do. The dependent person readily receives counsel and comfort from Jesus. The independent one thinks he can solve his poverty of spirit and body through more work. Jesus spoke, and Mary listened. The Father showed Jesus what He was doing, and Jesus watched. The dependent life listens and watches the Father move. There is more focus put on the Father's activity than our own... more attention on what He is saying than our own self-talk. This is why we are positioned at the right hand of the Father in Jesus (Eph. 2:6; Col. 3:1-4). We are in the ideal position to hear and see what God is doing. It is only when our eyes and ears are open that we can truly exercise our authority in Jesus. Practiced dependence on Jesus increases the flow of authority from our lives. Independence has the look of authority but lacks real spiritual power. Stop. Listen. Look. Where is Jesus? What is he saying? What is he doing? He is calling us to greater dependence in our walk, not just in quiet times. Take the position of Mary at Jesus' feet. Better yet, take the position of Jesus watching His Father's every move.
