Worship and Missions
Psalm 47:7-9 - "For God is the King of all the earth; sing to him a psalm of praise. God reigns over the nations; God is seated on his holy throne. The nobles of the nations assemble as the people of the God of Abraham, for the kings of the earth belong to God; he is greatly exalted." (NIV)
Psalm 67:3-4 - "May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you. May the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you rule the peoples justly and guide the nations of the earth." (NIV)
Mark 11:17 - "And as he taught them, he said, 'Is it not written: My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations’ ? But you have made it a den of robbers.'" (NIV)
1 Peter 2:9 - "But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light." (NIV)
Revelation 5:9-10 - "And they sang a new song: 'You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.'” (NIV)
Worship is the motivation for missions. It is in the place of worship that we receive the heart of God for the nations. Since God longs for all nations to worship him, we see his heart as we gaze on him in worship. We get so full of love and admiration for the Lord that we just have to talk about him. We just have to bring the good news of who God is to the lost and hurting. In worship, we get so full of the love of God that it comes splashing out. This overflow of the love of God propels us into mission.
Worship is the goal of missions. The picture in Revelation 7:9 of people from every tribe, nation and tongue worshipping Jesus will come true. We go into all the world and preach the Gospel to all creatures (Mark 16:15) in order to make this picture a reality. Our goal in missions to see worshippers raised up from every ethnic group. We are not commissioned to gain converts, rather disciples who are radical worshippers of Jesus.
Worship is one of the main methods of missions. 1 Peter 2:9 says that we are chosen to declare the praises of God. It is in our declaration that the lost hear about the greatness of God. It is in our worship that unbelievers are convicted of sin and get attracted to the purity of Jesus. It is in worship that the spiritual atmosphere of darkness is removed making it much easier for the hard-hearted to receive the truth. If you are not sure how to be a missionary, begin with worshipping God. As you do this, you are participating in fulfilling the Great Commission.

Thoughts and Questions for Application
- Have you ever experienced motivation to share the good news with people after you have encountered God in worship? When our worship is God-focused, he reveals his heart for the nations to us. When we focus on ourselves in worship (i.e. getting filled up with God's presence), we often miss out on his heart for others.
- Have you ever thought about how to make worshippers of God, instead of converts to Christianity? If you want to make worshippers of God, it would make sense that worship would be at the core of your evangelism and discipleship efforts.
