The Spirit of God
The Spirit of God has made me, and the breath of the Almighty gives me life. Job 33:4 NASB
There’s something you need more than air.
Stop a moment. Take a deep breath. Now breathe out. Where did that breath come from? Where does the life filling your lungs come from?
Genesis 2:7 says, “The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.”
Your very life is created and sustained by the very breath of God! In fact, another name for God is Spirit of God or breath of God. Spirit of God in the original Hebrew is ruach, meaning breath.
As you breathe in right now, do you recognize that the very Spirit of God is giving you life? He is indeed closer than a breath away. God has determined to stay close to you. He can do this because he is Spirit.
John 4:24 says that God is spirit. This does not mean that he is merely breath or a wind. He is a real person who comes very close. Yet, you cannot see him. He does not have the flesh that Jesus has. But you can see the manifestation of his power all over the place.
Invite the Spirit of God to breathe in you… meaning, invite him to come close and speak to you. Tell him that you want to follow his gentle promptings. Don’t relate to him as you would relate to wind or warm sunshine. He is a real person to be adored and revered.
The Spirit of God is closer to you than you can imagine. He is the breath you really need. Will you acknowledge him today?
