Love Has A Name
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. 1 John 4:8 NIV
If you know God, you would know that God is love. He is defined by love. Is this the God that you follow, or is there a false image of God that you have given your allegiance to?
For many, it is difficult to combine power with love. The Almighty God and the God of love can be difficult to comprehend. It can be easier to think of God with sheer power, commanding the ocean, stars, and people into obedience. How is this God defined as love?
There is power in the love of God. For his love is all about sacrifice. In the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, the greatest act of powerful love was displayed. In this world, power means might. In God's kingdom, power means love as defined by self-sacrifice. The love of God is not a passing feeling of pity on you. It is a rock-solid, sacrificial act on your behalf.
God doesn't just say, "I love you." He proved it. He still proves it. His love is deep, and it requires the power of the Holy Spirit to fully comprehend. Ephesians 3:16-19 says, "I pray that out of his glorious riches he may strengthen you with power through his Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the saints, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge–that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God."
It's time to get dunked in the love of God… to know the width, length, height and depth of his love. He desires to go deeper than your mind, to affect your body, soul, mind and spirit. Ask him for this experience. Trust him for it. He is the God of love.
