God of All Comfort
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort. 2 Corinthians 1:3 NIV
Where do you look for comfort? In the fridge, your phone or that person? The comfort you seek outside of God is like biting into cotton candy (fairy floss). The two seconds of sweetness is so good, but then it all disappears.
God calls himself comfort. In this passage the Greek word for comfort is “paraklesis.” This is the same word used for the Holy Spirit in John 14:16. Jesus said that the Father would be sending another person, the Comforter or Holy Spirit, to be with you forever.
The deepest comfort is expressed to you through a person, the Holy Spirit. He never leaves and always speaks to you. His presence brings comfort, and his words reassure you.
This God of all comfort brings security to you in ALL of your troubles. He does not stand idly by while you bear the weight and pressure of heavy loads. But why do you not always experience this comfort?
Remember, real comfort is found in a person, the Holy Spirit. In the midst of your trials, do you intently listen to his voice? Or do you run to the quick fix? He has promised to never leave you and always remind you of Jesus’ words. But, your role is to ask and listen.
Stop a moment. Ask for the Holy Spirit’s specific words of comfort or wisdom in your situation. Determine to grab hold of his comfort. Listen to his voice through the Bible and in prayer. He will surely minister to your spirit, soul, mind and emotions.
