Education without application is pointless. Without application of truth, only pride remains. Without the application of love, knowledge only puffs up. 1 Corinthians 8:1 Keep Reading...
James 1:22 - Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
Education is of huge importance in our day. So much pressure is put on the student to get good grades. The theory is that greater knowledge will bring a higher paying job with more security. With knowledge, one has the guise of power. But, it is only the correct application of knowledge that makes all the difference.
Do you realize that demons have great knowledge? They even know who God is. They believe that there is one God. James 2:19 Demons are the clear example of how knowing the truth and applying the truth are two different things.
God is the most important one to know about. He is the source of knowledge and the One to know. You could spend a lifetime learning about the greatest scientific discoveries and the inner workings of the mind. But, if you miss the knowledge of God, you miss everything. All knowledge that has God stripped out of it is completely futile.
Do you know, however, that the knowledge of God is not enough. The Pharisees in the Gospels "knew God," and yet completely missed the point of the knowledge. The point of knowing God is submission to God. Jesus, God in the flesh, stood before the Pharisees. Yet they scoffed at him. John 5:39
When your reading of God's Word does not end in greater submission to God, you will wander aimlessly. Eventually, you will perish with lots of knowledge. Do not be educated beyond your obedience. Do not merely listen to the word. Do what it says.
