Ready to Repent

THINK ABOUT IT
David committed adultery, then murder. Perhaps the power of being king went to his head... perhaps his great wealth no longer satisfied him. Either way, he committed his sins in a bold fashion. It's a wonder that he seemed to do all this without a conscience. However, commitment to sin has a way of making a large callous around our spirits.

Nathan, the prophet, was used by God to bring sharp conviction into David's calloused heart. "For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword...." (Hebrews 4:12). And when this conviction came, David responded. He never excused his sin. Instead he quickly repented.

Notice how David recognized that his sin was first and foremost against God. This is important. We have not come to grips with our sin until we have recognized what we have done to the heart of God. Repenting for rebellion against God is the starting point of restored relationship.

Do you make excuses when convicted of sin? Does it take you awhile to acknowledge rebellion? God desires that we would immediately respond with our clear confession of wrongdoing. He wants us to take full responsibility and acknowledge the pain we have caused God.

PRAY
Dear Lord, I want to walk in righteousness before You. Please show me if there is any rebellion in my life toward You. (Now wait for Him to speak. If He reveals sin to you, then continue...) I repent of (turn away from) ___________________ . Please forgive me for hurting Your heart. I commit to obeying You in this area. Thank you for Your forgiveness. In Jesus' name, Amen.
