Are you finished with your old thought patterns? Criticism, lust, negativity… Read about your role in throwing off the old patterns. Keep Reading…
Ephesians 4:22-24 NLT - Throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception. Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.
God always works in partnership with you. Though he does the miracle of making you look like Jesus, he gives you a significant part to play. You might think it would be nice to get your mind cleansed just like a car would go through a car wash. But, you have a much more active role in seeing your thoughts and attitudes be made new.
You are first called to "throw off the old sinful nature and former way of life." This picture is of throwing off an old piece of clothing that we used to wear. Imagine if your old clothes became filled with maggots - tiny worms crawling all through your clothes. Would you just peacefully co-exist with the maggots. Oh no! You would throw those clothes off as soon as possible.
Your response to your old pattern of thinking (criticism, lust, negativity, etc.) should be to throw it off with haste and vigour. If you do not distance yourself from those old ways, God will not be able to renew your mind. He is determined to work with you. God will not rip your old clothes off. That is something only you can do.
Throw off those old clothes. Let the Spirit give you new ones… his new thoughts.
