When you become the focus of your world, you lose purpose and function. Why? You were made to fit... in Jesus' body. Your purpose finds its greatest fulfillment in making Him known. Keep Reading...
1 Corinthians 12:12 - The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ.
Since the ascension of Jesus into heaven, God has been busy at work building something - his church. He has been painstakingly placing people into the right positions. He wants this church to shine, to beautifully reflect his Son, Jesus. In fact, the church is called the body of Jesus. This is not a mere building. It is a living, breathing organism.
In order for the body of Jesus to function, it must submit to the head, that is, Jesus. Body parts laying on the ground disconnected are of no use. They only find their purpose when attached to the whole. And they can only function when attached to the head (Jesus).
When you meet your friend at work, they recognize you as a person. They do not focus on one part of you and say, "Here comes the toenail!" So too, as we are a part of Jesus' body, someone would recognize Jesus approaching them, not Jesus' toenail approaching them. Your role is to ensure that people see Jesus. This is best done as we live out loving relationship with each other in front of the world.
You are not, nor ever will be the main feature of Jesus' body. You fit into his body. That is your claim-to-fame. Your goal should be that people recognize Jesus through your life, rather than focus on you, as if you were the whole body. Calling Jesus Lord of your life means that you recognize your small, yet significant role to play in the body of Jesus. The Lordship of Jesus in your life means that you submit to the purpose of making him known at the expense of self.
John 3:30 - He must become greater; I must become less.
