Follow the Shepherd

Hearing God's voice is all about following Jesus. He is taking us somewhere. We don’t just hear his voice in a vacuum or as a random exercise. It is a part of following Him. Sheep do not know the final destination. They only know the next step just behind the Shepherd. He speaks so that we will stay right behind Him following step by step.

We often pull back or get frozen in fear, because we want to know the final destination and all the implications involved in it. We will be confused if we complicate the simplicity of the next step with our need to know everything.

We can trust that the Good Shepherd is leading us out into green pastures, because He wants to feed us. If we stay right behind Him, listening to His step by step instructions, we will make it to those green pastures.

In hearing God's voice, don’t try to be the Shepherd. Be a sheep. Keep it simple. Ask, “Jesus, what is my next step?" Then, tell Him that you will follow Him even before you know exactly where you’re going.

Dear Shepherd, I trust You. Even when I don’t know my final destination, I will not get frozen in fear, but I will follow. I am committed to hearing and following one step at a time. I believe that green pastures are ahead of me. Thank You, Jesus, for leading me. In Jesus' name, Amen.
