Do you struggle with anger? Have a short fuse? It can be a common fixture in many homes… almost passed off as unavoidable. Keep Reading...
James 1:19-20 NIV - "My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires."
We all know the truth. Anger is ugly. It damages and destroys relationships. It backs people into a corner. Anger starts a fire that is not easily put out.
Where does anger come from? Our choices. Anger seeks to control people or situations through verbal and/or emotional domination. This is motivated out of fear and insecurity. "For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks" (Matt. 12:34).
The damage left in the wake of anger is horrific. Children learn to mistrust authorities (worst of all, mistrust in God as the ultimate authority). People abused by anger tend to pass the abuse on or turn internal with their own anger.
Anger dominates and intimidates people. Those who choose not to control their moods and tongues bring great destruction to the generations that follow. Anger does not bring about righteousness. It breaks relationship.
Do you allow little moments of anger to persist through your day? Those sparks will quickly turn into a forest fire. Snuff out the sparks. Do not allow them to smolder.
