Abraham's Altars

God draws us back to the altar, the place where he dwells. It’s like a homing device within us. Be drawn back to remember his goodness today at his altar. Keep Reading...

Worship
Psalms 43:3-4 - Send forth your light and your truth, let them guide me; let them bring me to your holy mountain, to the place where you dwell. Then will I go to the altar of God, to God, my joy and my delight. I will praise you with the harp, O God, my God.

Worship: God draws us back to the altar, the place where he dwells. It’s like a homing device within us. Be drawn back to remember his goodness today at his altar.

Remember
Genesis 12:6-9 - Abram traveled through the land as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh at Shechem. At that time the Canaanites were in the land. The Lord appeared to Abram and said, “To your offspring I will give this land.” So he built an altar there to the Lord, who had appeared to him.

From there he went on toward the hills east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. There he built an altar to the Lord and called on the name of the Lord. Then Abram set out and continued toward the Negev.

Remember: The altars represented significant moments of God speaking, as well as the active remembering of God's promises. Where are the altars in your life? Do you have any?

Believe
Matthew 5:23-24 - Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to your brother; then come and offer your gift.

Believe: Jesus clarifies what appropriate worship at the altar should look like. He desires right relationships between people as much as the personal act of worship at the altar.

Surrender
Acts 9:1-6 - Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples. He went to the high priest and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem. As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?”

“Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked.

“I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.”

Surrender: Can you remember a significant time when God spoke to you or appeared to you? What happened? Remember and thank God today for this moment. Make an altar today.
