2 Timothy 1:7 NLT - For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline. Keep Reading...
It is clear that the spirit God gave us is not one of fear. Then why do we wrestle with fear at times? Why don't we feel full of power, love and self-discipline?
We need to first recognize that the gifts God gives are solid. They are real and true. In other words, God does not give us a figurative spirit of power, love and self-discipline. It is a real, literal spirit - the Holy Spirit - that he gives us.
As the Holy Spirit is inside us and with us, we have all we need to accomplish all that he has called us to. But just because the Holy Spirit is with us, it doesn't mean that we will always operate with power, love and self-discipline.
Earlier in 2 Timothy 1 Paul urges Timothy to "fan into flame the gift of God in you" (2 Timothy 1:6). It's like the Spirit from God is a pilot light within you that has been lit. But, to see this Spirit be made manifest, we need to exercise our gift… to breathe on it… to fan it into flame. Our role in working with the Holy Spirit is crucial in seeing fear broken off of our lives.
Trust that you have the Holy Spirit. And now, activate his movement in your life by practicing power, love and self-discipline. Practice this in personal times and ministry times. Turn up the gas to produce a flame from the already lit pilot light.
