Colossians 1:16 - For by him [Jesus] all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. Is this how you live? Read more...
In our day, intellectual property rights are a big deal. When you come up with a unique invention, production process or system, the next step is to get a patent. This is the official document that states your ownership of that invention. We all know that there is a difference between creating something and owning something. When ownership is not clear, thieves rush in to copy and steal the rights.
It is clear that Jesus is the Creator. Look at yourself and the world around you. The intricacy of creation is astounding. The uniqueness of each human is testament to the greatness of God. After everything was created, God commented, "It is good." Genesis 1:31 He didn't need a patent to prove his ownership. The perfect creation modeled itself after the perfect Creator. Humans, created in the image of God, had the patent imbedded within them.
That humans would recognize God as the Creator, but not the Owner, would seem inconceivable. Yet, this is what was done. The first sin of Adam and Eve came with a loud declaration to God, "You don't own me! I will be the master of my own life. I make the rules. I call the shots." Since this point, God's ownership has been contested.
How is it possible for you to live like God is not your owner? When you change the Scripture verse above to "all things were created by HIM and for ME." When you live like you are the center of the universe… that the purpose of life is to fulfill your desires, then you live like you are the owner.
Now, of course, God never ceases to be the Creator and Owner. But, you can deny his ownership in your life through making independent decisions. When you do not seek him in detail in your life, you are trying to assert yourself as the owner. You can try to copy God's ways. But, if you are not being obedient, you are trying to steal the ownership rights.
Actually, Satan is the master at trying to copy God's ways. He masquerades as an angel of light. 2 Corinthians 11:14 He acts like he is the one in charge. 1 Peter 5:8 But, do not be deceived. He is a fraud. For sure, do not follow his path of trying to steal the ownership rights.
Humble yourself before the Creator and Owner of your life. Live like you are owned, because you are! Lay down all rights of personal ownership. They were never your rights to hold onto in the first place. Know the freedom that comes with being owned by the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, Jesus Christ.
