You will only know who you are when you give yourself over to God the Father. He defines you. He says that you are his child… a child that has been lavished with love.
Dear Father, I want to know you. Open my ears and my heart to receive truth from your Word. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
1 John 3:1-2
According to God, who are you?
Who are you becoming like?
When we are not sure who we are, we try to find security in people, new experiences, comfort food and more. We change how we look and who we hang out with all in an effort to solve the question mark stamped on our spirit - Who am I? In other words, we want to know what our purpose is, why we’re here, what’s the big point of our lives.
You will only know who you are when you give yourself over to God the Father. He defines you. He says that you are his child… a child that has been lavished with love. He says, “Will you accept this definition as God’s beloved child?” Accepting this truth brings security to our souls.
1 John 2:28 NIV - And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming.
Do you like being defined as a child? God the Father loves that you are his child. He desires your full acceptance in being his son or daughter. Take some time to thank the Father that he has adopted you. Tell him that there is nothing better than belonging to him. If you can’t say this with sincerity, then ask the Father to show you what you are putting your identity in that is outside of God. As he reveals this to you, make it right before God (repent) and begin again.
