Where is God in your hour of need? Does he care? We deeply desire justice, but it doesn't appear. How long must we wait?
Isaiah 30:18 - Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; he rises to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for him!
Sometimes, it is hardest to wait when justice seems far off. We think evil people are winning the day… that they are getting away with cruelty and abuse. It is in these times that our trust in the character of God can waver. We wonder where he is. When will he bring justice?
We are reminded in 2 Peter 3:9 that "The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." In other words, when it might seem like God is absent and silent, he is not. His timing is perfect… though it doesn't always match with our own. Much of his apparent "slowness" revolves around his patience. God deeply desires redemption, even of the worst of sinners. In his justice, he longs to show mercy.
This verse from Isaiah reveals the character of God. He actually longs to be gracious to you. He rises to show you compassion. God is not apathetic toward your situation and need for justice. In fact, he is called the God of justice. Be assured… he is working in the unseen places for complete justice. Just hold on. Wait for him!
Remember the patience of God in your own life. While you were a sinner, he died for you. Romans 5:8 Thank him that he did not give you what you deserved. The perfect display of the Father's mercy and justice was shown in the death of Jesus on the cross. God came through on his promise. If he went to this extent to reveal his justice and mercy, will he not continue to do this in your life? Trust him. The Father's timing is perfect.
Wait for him. He is the God of justice.
