James 5:7-8 - Dear brothers and sisters, be patient as you wait for the Lord’s return. Consider the farmers who patiently wait for the rains in the fall and in the spring. They eagerly look for the valuable harvest to ripen. You, too, must be patient. Take courage, for the coming of the Lord is near. Keep Reading...
Do you ever think about this? Jesus is coming back. It is probably not the most common thought you have, amidst the traffic and chores of daily life. The thought of what to make for dinner can seem much more pressing than the thought of Jesus’ return. Yet, he is coming back. “The coming of the Lord is near.”
When you have waited for a friend to come over, but they never show, it can be easy to lose heart and move on. You can have knowledge of Jesus’ return, but do you wait for him in expectation? We are told to take courage and be patient as we wait for his return.
Courage comes through faith. Believing in Jesus’ return, even though you can’t see things happening in the natural, brings courage to your soul. The one who assumes that Jesus will never come in their lifetime is the one who walks without courage. When you live in light of Jesus’ return, your life gets re-prioritized. You begin to spend your time, money and energy on things that will last into eternity. This is courageous living.
When you live with the great expectation of his return, you realize that the “big issues” of life (money, job, promotions, car, family pressures, etc.) are not so big. Jesus and life eternal is THE big issue. When you firmly believe in Jesus’ return, you will want to walk in holiness. You realize that the Holy One is coming to get you. James 5:9 proclaims, “The Judge is standing at the door.”
What would you change about your current priorities if you firmly believed that Jesus was coming back soon? Would you spend more time on his priorities… ensuring that all nations have an opportunity to know him? Jesus has promised to come back to get you.
He always keeps his promises!
