It's interesting how time seems to pass much more quickly the older we get. Why is that? When we were young, we couldn't wait to get older. Now, that we are older, we would like time to stand still… so we can hold onto as much youth as we can. Keep Reading...
Psalm 90:12 ESV - So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.
Actually, time progresses at the same pace it always has. But we don't always experience it that way. For some, the busyness of life catapults time forward. For others, the monotony of routine makes time stand still. In the Psalms we are called to number our days. We are to recognize that we will never get this day back. Once it's gone, it's done. Every moment is precious, a gift.
When we understand that life is short, we are filled with a sense of urgency and gratefulness. This is the "heart of wisdom" that Psalm 90 talks about. When people know that they will die soon, they get focused on the most important things in life. They often live with an urgency to express their love, give their gifts or make peace with God. We want to be involved in the most important things when we realize how short life is.
Gratitude for the moment also wells up inside of us when we understand that our time is short. God desires great thanksgiving to be pouring out of us. This happens when we are fully present in the moment. When we are not living in the past or the future, we can be grateful for the now.
Treat this moment as a gift. You'll never get it back. Take time to thank God for your present situation… your family, home, work, school, friends, and more. You could always think of something to complain about. But, you will waste your moments that way. Thank the Lord for the gift of this moment.
