The body of Jesus will only grow as we communicate rightly with each other. This means speaking the truth in love. Keep Reading…
Listen to Ephesians 4 below and let God's Word soak into you.
Ephesians 4:14-16 - Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
Do you ever find yourself desiring to withhold the truth in an attempt to show love? Or do you ever just speak the truth, because it's right… not necessarily because it's loving? We can often fall off on either end… favoring truth over love or vice versa.
Actually, truth spoken without love is not truth at all. And to love someone without speaking truth is not love at all. You need both together. This is the only way that Jesus' body grows.
It takes courage to say the truth to a friend while maintaining love in your heart. Speaking the truth in love is a move of brave obedience. But, it's necessary to see Jesus shine in our world.
In what relationship do you most often feel the temptation NOT to speak the truth in love? Perhaps you fear rejection? Perhaps you feel that a person just needs a good dose of your truth? Ask the Spirit to reveal relationships to you where you haven't been speaking the truth in love. Choose to turn from sin and be a part of building Jesus' body.
