Is it possible to imitate God… to actually walk and talk like him? How can this be done? Keep Reading…
Ephesians 5:1-2 - Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
When my son was born, the nurse said, “I’ve never seen a baby look more like his father.” Of course, great pride swelled within me (good pride :)). There was a little person that looked like me. Where did he get such good looks - from his father, of course! (Well, his mother is a bit of a stunner too :))
You were made to look like, talk like and walk like your Heavenly Father… not because you are a redeemed individual, but because you are his child. You are a “dearly loved” child, in fact. You have the stamp of the Father’s image on you. And of course, you need to learn to walk and talk like him.
Jesus, God’s Son, did this as well. He imitated his Father. Jesus loved us and sacrificed himself for us. Where did he get that from? He was simply imitating his Father.
We are also called to imitate our Father in his self-sacrificial love. When we love like that, we confirm to ourselves and others that we really belong to him. 1 John 3:18-20
Do you really believe it is possible to imitate your Heavenly Father?
The greatest display of love for your Father would be to imitate him. How can you show self-sacrificial love today? Is there a sacrifice of time, money or attention that you could give to a person. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you in this today.
