James 1:16-17 - Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers. Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. Keep Reading...
How good is your Father God? So good. From him comes every good and perfect gift in life… even the ones we can’t see yet. His generous character is likened to light that is constant. In other words, the Father never changes in his mood or manner toward you. He is consistent.
There is never a time when the “clouds” block us from the good and perfect gifts from above. He does not change like shifting shadows. But, why is it that we do not always experience the goodness of our Father? How is it possible that we can have times of darkness and lowness of spirit if the Father is so good? Does he turn the lights off on us?
To answer this question, let’s explore how we see color. When light shines in a room, it hits different surfaces and bounces back. This “bounce back” of light is called reflection. Certain surfaces absorb certain amounts of light and reflect other light. It is in the reflection or “bounce back” of light that we see color.
The Father is always shining his light on us (his good and perfect gifts). In other words, we are constantly absorbing his good gifts. But, why don’t we always experience them? Why don’t we consistently experience “color” in our lives? It’s all about the reflection, namely thanksgiving. It is thanksgiving that causes the color to come. Thanksgiving lifts the darkness and heaviness from you. Without the reflection, we just absorb and absorb. This only leads to further darkness.
The Father is always giving his good and perfect gifts. The way you experience them consistently is through thanksgiving to God. You can start now. Start thanking Him and experience the amazing color he brings to life.
