The line between speaking the truth and sinning against another person with "truthful" anger can easily be blurred. Do you live in the blurry place? Keep Reading…
Ephesians 4:25-28 - Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body. “In your anger do not sin” : Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold. He who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with his own hands, that he may have something to share with those in need.
Have you been on the receiving end of someone's anger? It breeds fear and intimidation. When anger is in the room, you most likely want to leave or hide. Nothing good comes when anger lingers. That is why James 1:19-20 says, "Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires."
When intimidation and control come out of the mouth through anger, that's when sin enters into the room. The feeling of anger is a normal part of being human. But allowing these angry emotions to dictate your actions is not right.
Sometimes you feel you have a right to let someone have it. You just want to speak your mind… tell it like it is… give someone a good dose of the truth. Be sure that anger is not coming through your "truth." Remember that Ephesians 4:15 says, "Speak the truth in love."
Deal with angry feelings through a specific, conscious choice to forgive. Release people and situations from your control and put them in God's hands. And do this quickly. Don't let the sun go down while you are still angry.
