Sleep Tight

I lie down and sleep; I wake again, because the Lord sustains me. I will not fear the tens of thousands drawn up against me on every side. Psalms 3:5-6 NIV
Trouble sleeping? How about when you wake up? Does your mind quickly get filled with anxious thoughts, schedules to be sorted and relationships to be clarified?

David, the Psalmist, definitely had reason for anxiety and fear. His son, Absalom, was hunting him down. His life and kingdom was at stake. This would cause great sleeplessness. And yet, David called out to God. He refused to be paralyzed by the fear that was hunting him down.

David declared that God was his shield. This was not a wishful attempt at making bad feelings go away. It was not fighting fear with a positive mental attitude. David believed that God’s reality (his power and protection) was true in his life.

In the face of fear and anxiety, you have a choice to make. Will you go with your gut response and try controlling your life and other people? Or will you declare with David that “from the Lord comes deliverance”?

The Lord wants you to lie down and sleep in peace - even when trouble is lurking. Calling out to him for deliverance and trusting in his caring solutions will be you peace - when you lie down and wake up.

He is the God of David. He is your God. Trust him.
